This looked different than any meteor shower I've seen. Brighter, larger, with that interesting sparkle effect.

There was what I would call a sparkler effect: several, maybe up to five sparkle-like objects that trailed the main ball of light. Similar to the light flashes made by a Fourth of July Sparkler. Each 'sparkle' lasted maybe a second or two.

I'm not sure, but could that sparkler effect I saw be part of an explosion/fragmentation? I've seen meteors before, but I have never seen the sparkly effect.

Sparkle-effect behind the main object that was heading North to South (view from my windshield, driving West). Looked like fireworks.
